With radio airplay, gigs all over St Louis, and one solo album already under his belt, Young K can be sure his “hip-hop music with a message” is getting heard. For 28yr old Young K, the passion for music began early, at the age of six.Young K performed in talent shows and realized the stage was where he truly belonged. In high school, he joined the hip-hop group Smokas Playas Hustlers, with whom he recorded his first album at the age of sixteen. Young K also attended high school with fellow up-and-coming St. Louis rapper Ruka Puff, and the two would routinely battle it out. Unfortunately, Young K got caught up in drugs and street life and temporarily lost track of his dream of performing; it took a stay in jail to get back on track. While in jail, Young K became determined to make major changes in his life and pursue his ultimate goal of becoming a successful hip-hop artist. When Young K was released from jail in 2002, he immediately put his plans for change into action, finding gainful employment and devoting all his free time to his music. He began rapping with fellow St. Louis hip-hop artist and entrepreneur Mercy, CEO of B.O.S.S. Entertainment, and Mercy immediately recognized Young K’s huge talent and potential. Young K soon signed with record label Thumbz Down and recorded his solo debut, Thug Congregation, which was hosted by DJ Cuddy of major St. Louis radio station 104.1. Young K later broke with Thumbz Down and ventured out on his own, continuing to write and perform new music. Young K writes all his own music and defines his work as hip-hop with a message, music he can let speak for itself.
